As the fight to encourage more women into tech rages on, experts are considering the dangers of having a lack of diversity in technology teams. The year 2018 was declared ‘The Year of the Woman’, and yet women in the tech sector are still facing unconscious bias, gender pay gaps, a lack of role models and the development of sexist AI. The stereotypes surrounding the technology industry are still putting young women off of careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (Stem).
Around half of young women don’t think tech careers are “exciting” or believe they have the necessary skills for a career in technology. But there is still hope – more than 60% of young women say they regret not studying Stem subjects for longer.
